If I'm using my current supervisor and the previous two as references, do I have to ask them? They're on my resume as my most recent, so the prospective employer is going to contact them anyway. Why would I ask them?

out of courtesy and politeness...it also gives them a heads up that someone will be calling and why..they might take the call as opposed to letting it go to "voice mail" that could be construed as - i don't want to talk to you cause i have nothing good to say...

Yes. It's a common courtesy. Plus, this way they can expect to be contacted and will not be surprised when they get a call out of the blue.

Dont you want your references to speak good about you?
