Another way is to count your fingers: 1-8, 2-8, 3-8, 4-8, 5-8, 6-8, 7-8, 9-8, 10-8, 11-8. You can use this as a "proof" should someone object to your counting down to 6, and adding 5 more to make 11.

Count down on one hand from 10 to 6 then count up the other hand from 1-5. 5 + 6 = 11!
