They're great, though they can seem a tad soggy sometimes. Chicken and Mushroom / Steak are the finest of the bunch.

Beware the lids, though - they're lethal, I cut myself on one once and needed surgery on my hand.

We always had Fray Bentos Pies when we went on holiday to our caravan as kids, 30 years ago. It was one of the things I got excited about going on holiday, that and tinned rice pudding. We never had them any other time so it was a treat.. ...what a simple childhood I had!!

They are lovely. although I haven't had one since I was a kid. They are supposed to feed an entire family but I could eat one to myself.

Get some mash, peas and gravy on the plate too for a trip down memory lane to 1970's Britain!

Good luck!

The steak and kidney ones are fab! Chicken and mushroom one isn't so nice, its a bit like baby food when it comes out of the pie! The pastry is so nice tho! Yum!

I used to love them, but that was years ago & I wouldn't eat anything from a tin anymore as it's not very good for you with all the preservatives etc.

It took me 32 years before my first one and it was my last one if that is any help! I prefer the real, homemade untinned versions!
