What does understanding structure give to the reader?

Parts of structure: plot, characters; scenes; setting. It draws the attention of the reader by continuiong going through the fiction until conflict is resolved. Since a fiction makes hero have a serious problem to resolve, how he is going to meet the problem, through plot, holds readers to find out .
