Well considering the directors of the anime are working on other current projects at this time, I am doubting it. They did leave it open to the possibility, so they may come in with a second run, or maybe an OAV series to finish it up. Then again a lot of series have been left open like that not to be finished or to only continue in manga, even though GunXSword was not in manga.
If you don't see a sequel by next Japanese season, then I would write it off as not happening. If they were going to continue it they would have released it already or at least put it in the works.

Oh, and as for Action anime to watch. Try Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou, Cowboy Bebop, Speed Grapher, Witchblade, Pumpkin Scissors, Trigun, Jyu Oh Sei, Samurai Champloo, Tenjho Tenge, Cyber City Oedo, Gensomaden Saiyuki, Kiba, Bastard, Orphen, Busou Renkin, and maybe Black Blood Brothers.

Hard to tell what folks consider rare anymore but from viewing this site for a while here are some good action animes that don't get a lot of mention:

Blue Seed
Gunparade (March and Orchestra)
GunBusters (I & II)
Sokyuu no Fafner
Texhnolyze
The Wings of Honneamise (a movie but excellent action)
Melody of Oblivion (kind of weird but interesting)

I don't think that there is a sequel to the series in question, but there are some good action titles currently on the air. Try "Trinity Blood" on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim on Saturdays. "Slayers" is also a good series, but its attempts at humor may put you off a bit.

Hmmm, I don't know of a sequel to GUNxSWORD, sorry.
...Have you seen Samurai 7? That's a good one. :D
