My son had this once and it was aweful! He screamed so hard whenever I'd try and wipe/clean him that he shook. My doctor told me to soak him in Domborro's sitz bath 3x a day and it TOTALLY worked! You can find Domborro's at any drugstore in the first aid section...it's for insect bites and open wounds. You put the powder in a bit of water in the sink, have your son sit in it for 10-15 min, then let him run around without a diaper for about the same amount of time. The combination of air and medicine will make those bleeding parts scab over very quickly so you can use the creams. If the skin is broken down then creams won't help. Also, the best thing is just fresh air, so let him go without a diaper as much as possible, and when you do put it on, put it on loose. Good luck!

My son used to get diaper rashes like that after he had spaghetti sauce, bleeding also. It comes on really fast sometimes. Keep his diaper off as often as possible so his bottom can dry. That will help a lot with his discomfort also. Give him some Tylenol. Keep using Desitin. I have used different diaper rash creams. I really think Desitin works best. Call the doctor. There is probably nothing else you can really do. It will heal pretty quickly.

The baby might be allergic to something from the day before. If the child is bleeding then I would put some neosporin on it bottom and keep a diaper off of it. Diaper rash ointment never worked on my little bebe so we had to go with the airing out naked method.

This has happened to one of my children several times. He seems to have very sensitive skin.

When this happens I usually use a little cornstarch on his bottom. It seems to help quite a bit. I also like to use Butt Paste. It's worked better than Desitin and other ointments. Letting him walk around without a diaper for a little while is nice also.

To help prevent diaper rash, I use sensitive wipes and buy better diapers. The less expensive diapers seem to be made of a cheap plastic that doesn't really allow the skin to breathe.

Are you sure it's bleeding and not just super red? In any case, until you bring him to the doctor, I would leave his diaper off, even if it gets messy. If you have a play pen for him, put some towels down and just let him roll in there with no diaper on until you bring him to the doctor. No diaper will help the skin air out. You want to keep his skin as dry as possible (and clean, of course). I would use cornstarch (which always calms my daughter right down), but some people don't. Until you see your doctor.

I have seen it a lot and it just makes the moms cringe. I don't think it is as painful for them as we think it should be. I was always told to go ahead and make sure it is clean (the wipes may sting) and to slather on the Desitin or some such cream. That has always worked for us. Keep putting it on even after it starts to heal.

When my daughteer (now 34) had a rash similar to that the doctor also had me let her go without a diaper for a bit to let air get to it. Yes, she peed AND pooped on the floor but it did help.

Sounds like you will be more comfortable going to your doctor and I totally don't blame you. Hope it clears up soon!!!!

Could be a yeast infection if it's that bad. They'll have to prescribe him some nystatin to get rid of it. Until you go to the doctors today, try to keep the diaper off him. I know it'll be messy but air works to clear up the rash. Cornstarch is also great at absorbing moisture. Throw a nice amount on the area and just let him air out a bit.

It sounds like a yeast infection, though. It's common for babies so don't worry. My daugther had one before and the nystatin cleared it up right away.

Good luck and kiss baby for us.

Our doctor told us the Desitin works okay, but he prefers 1% Clotrimazole cream. This is the same stuff in most jock itch/athlete's foot creams...be sure to check the ingredients. The easiest thing is to buy Wal-Mart's Equate brand which clearly states (1%) Clotrimazole cream. Use a very thin layer. We use it all the time and you can find it with the jock itch and/or athlete's foot area of the pharmacy. Ask you doctor about it when you go.

Don't use scented baby wipes it will hurt, put some desitin cream on him and corn starch no joke the cornstarch keeps the wetness from touching his skin and the rash will go away.If it does not get any better take him to the Dr.
