Hi!
Would anybody know if it's okay to put cichlid parrots as Arowana tankmates? What types of fish would be good arowana tankmates? Thanks!

my parrots are currently 3.5" and 2.5" wide... but we have a big tank more than 100 gallons so i'm pretty sure it's big enough for the fish. We have the parrot right now, we saw the arowana in the shop which is around 6" to 8" long...

The arowana if its a male will allow other arowanas of the female sex. Some good tankmates are plecos, or freshwater rays, it will also allow fish of the same size and aggression to stay. I've seen the arowana stay with clown loaches also. They make a good setup. Whatever the arowana does not eat the clown loaches.
Silver Arowanas because they are mostly farm raised and not caught from natural environment, thus more docile, can be kept with other freshwater fish as long as they are too large to fit in the arowana's mouth and parrot can be placed with an Arowana unless its too big to bite them, and as parrots are low and middle level fishes they would tolerate the arowanas upper level active-swimming lifestyle. If your parrots are already in the tank, thats very good, have the Arowana go in as a new comer, it helps a lot.
A word of advice: Proceed with caution, and keep an eye on the fish for a couple of weeks.

a parrotfish may work, but only get one that's nearly full grown.
how large is the tank and what kind of arowana do you have? if it's a silver arowana, and your tank is less than 300 US gallons, then no tankmates until you've upgraded your tank! even the smallest available arowana needs a minimum of 180 US gallons.
these large predatory fish need fish of similar size, no less than 12" long, (bearing in mind the silver arowana will grow to 4ft long, with a mouth to match) , not too nippy or aggressive but able to stand up for themselves if the need arises. arowanas are top-dwelling fish, so fish occupying the mid to lower sections are best.
it's best to stick to other South American fish (if your arowana is a South American arowana anyway). so silver dollars, non-aggressive south american cichlids, south american catfish. spiny eels and some bichirs can work as well.
edit:
ID the arowana first. and get an exact measurement of your tank. if it's less than 180 US gallons, it's too small for an arowana i'm afraid! arowana's will grow fast, especially silver arowanas! a silver arowana (Osteoglossum bircirrhosum) is not worth buying unless you already have a 300 US gallon tank up and ready to go. he WILL outgrow a 100 gallon tank!

My tank consists of a Silver Arowana and a Clown Knife. They are both about the same size and get along well.

I think you got good answers.
I wanted to point out to the person above me that only one species of arrowana is illegal or under protection that is the asian arrowana. They have to have the proper paperwork certifying that they were farm bred and have to have a microchip. They usually start in the 800$ range for the green color at a very small size.
Since they are CITES protected, however, they are illegal in the US even with the proper paperwork and chip....
Also, do consider that if you are getting a silver arrow they do not farm raise them (some of the people that raise asians in Singapore ect may dabble but there's not a lot of money in it). They are usually obtained by killing the father and taking the babies.

Please, please don't get the arowana. First, they are endangered and illegal in most places and trade in endangered animals really shouldn't be encouraged. Second, as another poster pointed out, they get huge. Your 100 gallon will not comfortably house a full grown arowana. As for tank mates, only fish larger than the arowana or fish you want to lose. arowana will eat anything they fcan get in their mouths which is lots of things you wouldn't think would fit. The parrot cichlids might be food once the arowana is grown.
Please reconsider, for the fish and your tank.

I see the arawanas here in China where they get to be between 2 and 3 feet in the aquariums. Usually they have them together, but they are all of similar size, or the other fish are all at least the same size if not bigger than they are.
