Don't know if the person who invented the garter was so named, but the garter belt is an alternative to just the plain garter...cool

No, it is Middle English, a band to support socks, stockings, etc. from Old North French gartier, from garet, bend of the knee. lol

Originally they were given the name regal but they started in Europe in the way of not being sexy and not being for men to see but to hold things up as woman became for develpoed and slutty they became outer wear!
