Want to make money out of it if possible so was thinking media.

Be careful,they will kill you if they think you are going to try and profit from the encounter.
The government will try and cover it up.
A magazine will take it and exploit it as their own.
SETI may be jealous and take the critter for their own.
They could kidnap you,which would result in the inevitable,er, probe.
You have a dilemma with only two options.
Keep your mouth shut and be safe.
Blurt it out and disappear.

Don't even try.
In my opinion that's not going to work. You need evidence that it happened and almost everybody will say your a liar. There is a high chance that life outside of earth exists but you would just make yourself look like a fool. If the government found out you were lying who knows what they would do.

Write a book.
Any one can make up a storey.
If you think the papers will pay you for it - just phone them all up and see what reaction you get.
Government's usually only try and cover up their own mistakes or weapons of destruction.
Your options are to Shut Up or Speak Up.
Did they tell you anything useful - like how to make money from your storey - or was it only how to make a nuisance of yourself on Yahoo Q&A

Go to the Psychiatric Unit at your local hospital, front desk, press the buzzer, tell them and the intergalactic world police will contact you.(you will not recognise them but it is them)
They may want to question you for several years, but I promise you the pills will work, and your story will get to the authorities that really matter.

Well, you could do as I am doing although different stories to share they are both unusal and may not be accepted as truth unless you can provide something to back your story up; write about it and share what you believe.
I share what I see in my sleep. I see far more than the eye can see and I have shared it as a gift from God-share your beliefs and then just allow the reader to come to their own conclusion.
