Afghanistan was harboring the perpetrators and wouldn't give them up despite several requests by us. They were warned. They didn't comply. We invaded.

A better question would be, why did he take his focus off the war on terror and invade Iraq? I notice he found Saddam in a hole in the ground and brought him to justice, but he just hasn't been able to put his finger on the man responsible for the senseless, violent, disgusting deaths of 3,000 of my countrymen.

Let's apply your logic to other terrorist attacks: Meaning the United States government should have bombed and attacked the United States since Timothy McVeigh was from the United States! Dude, do your homework. Osama Bin Laden was expelled from Saudi Arabia in the late 80's and fled to Afghanistan to start up Al Qaeda! You gonna bomb Saudi Arabia because the terrorists of 911 just happen to be born in Saudi Arabia??? Hate to see what you'd do Ireland over the IRA.

Understandable, since most of the hijackers were Saudi's, even Bin Ladin. Bin Ladin happens to be bases in Afghanistan, and the Bushes have close oil ties to the "king" in Saudi Arabia-so attacking them really wasn't a good personal investment for Bush.

Because Osama Bin Laden and his generals were in Afghanistan, being protected by the Taliban. We initially asked the Taliban to turn them over, but they refused.

Saudi Arabia had already banned Bin Laden from being within their borders.

This is a perfectly valid question, since people constantly use 9/11 to justify our attack on Iraq --- "uuuuh we were attacked first!!!"

We went into Afghanistan because supposedly, this is where Osama is/was -- of course we haven't caught the mastermind of 9/11 and are currently bogged down in a war of aggression with a country than never attacked us.
