Team on the verge of making the NCAA tournament. Mostly going to depend how they perform in the conference tourneys. If they lose the first game in the conference tournament, than they are most likely done for the season.

A bubble team is a team that might make the NCAA tourney, but they might not as well. The tournament bracket consists of the 32 teams that win their conference tourney and then a selection committe chooses the other teams. They look at strength of schedule and teams that they have beaten. Teams that fall in the latter of those remaining teams are teams on the bubble, due to the fact that they could make the tourney by a selection of the committe or they could be bypassed for another team on the bubble with better quality wins and strength of schedule.

Bubble team are the teams that have a chance to make it to the tourney as long as they keep winning of some of the teams ahead of them start losing. If not then their bubble will be busted.

A team that has a record just barely good enough to be selected to play in the field of 64. They did not win their conference and are in danger of missing out on post season play

They call it a bubble team because they have thinly veiled hopes of making it into the postseason and the slightest thing that goes wrong and their hopes burst just like a bubble.
