Hi, I am getting a popping sound (not grinding sound) for my KIA RIO 2004. THe sound is coming from the front right side of the vehicle. The sound comes whenever I apply the brakes to the vehicle or when I begin to accelerate from a traffice light.

I got it checked from MEINKE car care and they were not very sure of the problem. They think that it is the alignment plate on the front right wheel that may be causing the problem. My question is as below -
1) WHat could be the cause
2) How much will it cost me and the best and cheapest repair center in Charlotte, NC where I an get this fixed?

Take it to the kia dealer it sounds like a ball joint. That should still be under warranty. If not challenge it, and ten get a better car. Sorry to be so harsh but I worked as a service adviser in a Kia dealer and the cars are not that great.

Ball joint and or a bad front strut, which was the case on my wife's car. Only heard it when i went to stop and went to accelerate.

check for brake pads "jumping" in the bracket.
ck for upper & lower ball joint possibly bad
ck front outer C/V joint (if 4 wheel drive)
"bad alignment plate" is slightly possible, but very highly unlikely.
may also want to check the caloper bolts and hardware. If the bushings are worn out, it could make a "Popping " noise.

Good Luck!!!!!

If you bought the car new...take it to the dealer and have them check it out. The Kia has a good warranty and they do honor it (My wife and I both own KIAs)...as it would be a drive train problem it shouldn't cost you anything to have them diagnose and fix it
