Once the hamsters start squeeking they need to be replaced with factory rebuilt hamsters. The newer versions are more reliable, don't tire as quickly and need very little fuel to keep them going.
They just haven't been able yet to get rid of the squeeking once they wear out but they are working on it.

You could do that but the latest technology is the rubber band. You just wind it up and go. Of course you go very fast at the beginning and then just cruise.

hahahahaha. thanks. i really needed that laugh. the imagery just jumped out at me. i can just see the heaving little guys with their tongues hanging out barely hanging onto the wheel. let them rest, and get some rats from the streets from NYC and DC. they are HUGE. they can keep going and going and going. oh, wait, i have an idea, how about the energizer bunny? he keeps going and going and going. good luck and happy day :)

Hamsters need to be rested - you should invest in a few more, and change them so they do shift work. works for me!!
