I've tried to figure it out, short of dumping my system...it is driving me crazy! It isn't consistent, either. No specific program is open, etc. Help!

Sounds like your processer is over heating or you some very bad spyware on your PC........what you wanna do is remove the spyware so it frees up the PC of all the work your putting it through. Download this program for free and and run it. This should solve your problem. If not you have a serouis problem and should have a pro look at it!!!! Virus go get a firewall and an antivirus program, if that doesnt work save all your VITAL programs NOTHING YOU DONT NEED nad re-format your harddrive to dump everything off of it

UHMM check you setting under control pannel for the specific user or under My computer

mine had that same problem but i was messing with it and i accidently set a timer for it to do that so it might be in there..

it could be power supply problem, or overheating, or bad ventilation unit, not necessarily software problem. try opening the computer box and vacuum clean the dust, then leave the box open for a while and see if the problem stops.

Check to see if you have any programs to automatically update. If you do then sometimes it needs to restart for the new updates to work properly.
