If she is red and sore it may just be vaginitis. Get a large bowl and put baking soda and warm water in it...........have her soak for several minutes 3 times a day. If she feels better that was all it was. A that age kids don't wipe well. My daughter had that issue at 3 also. Good luck if that doesn't help and you can not get a specimen they will need to put in a catheter.

If it is a true UTI, you can tell by the urine color in the bowl after going. A healthy color should be a pale lemony yellow. If it is darker in color, it could be blood in urine which is typically a sign of infection. Most pharmacies carry female collection basins (fits under toilet seat) for about $8.00 and you can also ask too purchase a specimen cup (less than a $1.00) or they may give you one for free. Collect first mornings urine if possible, as that is usually more concentrated for better reading. Most young children do not like the taste of cranberry juice so, you could look for AZO tablets @ pharmacy also. Just slip it into a favorite item that can be swallowed whole (yogurt, pudding, applesauce) and then move fluids as much as tolerated. Have a daughter who is disabled and gets UTI's frequently. If it is an infection, they may prescribe a sulpha-based drug for treatment; usually pill form. You can drop off sample where ever you originally sought treatment initially... otherwise, YES they would catheterize. The symptoms to me though sound like UTI! Hope this helps!!

Why did the doctors not use a catheter to get a urine sample? They are very painful trust me I know I have had an on going battle with them since giving birth to my first daughter almost 8 years ago. Maybe explain to her you need her to peepee in the cup so the doctor can make her feel better! It's very important to have it checked soon if you aren't sure they have there little test strips you can get at CVS or Walgreens maybe tell her to pee on it and you can get an idea if she has one. Either way she needs to be checked if she is having pain down there, it's not normal! Did she maybe fall and hurt herself? Could be anything she needs to be taken to another doctor since the first one didn't do his/her job properly. As for the alka seltzer I've never heard of that ever and with children I'd never chance it. My mother is a peds nurse and her advice to me is ALWAYS if you feel something is wrong take your child to the doctors! It's better to be safe then sorry! If she does have a UTI poor baby I know she is in lots of pain suffering thru one right now and I can't imagine a 3 year old having to go thru that. Take her to the doctors ASAP!

CRANBERRY JUICE!! Ocean Spray Cranberry Cocktail is fine; anything with real cranberry juice in it. It is as affective as any antibiotic, and while I hate cranberries, sauce or juice, it is a million times better than the taste of the antibiotics that are prescribed for this!! It starts to make a difference within 24 hours, and is very agreeable to a 3 year old. I've had 3 myself, so I know at that age, they are hugely uncooperative! Get her some, asap, you'll both feel better by dinner time!!

You can get bottles of this at a corner store, and you can't OD on it either, but make sure you get her at least 3 of the small bottles (6-7oz I think they are)
You can identify a UTI (one way) by the way it feels like you gotta pee all the time, but that feeling intensifies to pain (burning) when you try to pee.
If this happens a lot for her, you might want to observe the way she wipes herself after using the toilet. If feces is getting into her vagina, that bacteria gets into her urethra, and that's how she's getting the infection.

It appears like burning, soreness or soreness once you urinate or correct after. you also sense like you would possibly want to urinate badly, yet once you bypass that is purely somewhat. Drink fairly some drinks with out caffeine. do not drink delicate beverages. Drink cranberry juice (Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail has 10% cranberry juice it truly is the minimum) and take cranberry pills until eventually you will get to the physician. the purely thanks to entice close for positive is to get examined. If that is an infection the physician supplies you antibiotics and some pills that kill the soreness of urinary tract infections. bypass to the physician! that is going to purely worsen and then that is fairly painful. Been there.
