Electricity is generated primarily by burning fossil fuels. Aprx. 80-90% of electricity generated in the United States comes from coal, followed by oil and natural gas. Only a small percentage of it comes from clean energy sources, such as solar, wind, and water.

Wow you are a lost individual . Electricity in and of itself my not cause any significant global warming on its own . However the methods used to generate electricity are considered the leading cause of global warming . We are going to have to convert to solar and nuclear power . Running nuclear generators at 90% all the time and using that power to convert hydrogen fuels during the day when solar cells can power all our daylight activity .
Peak use is between 4-9 pm for power consumption and from 6-9 am and we need switching gear that allows for excess power to be diverted to producing hydro fuels and the desalinization of sea water for irrigation and pumping stations .
Sea levels have risen enough that we can begin to pull a significant amount of water from the ocean .
What we need is a combination of energy systems working together to provide the comforts man has become accustom to these last few generations .
Nothing we accomplish does not need some form of energy converted to our use .
We must seek alternatives to oil which is a dirty fuel to solar with a sufficient nuclear back up system to power our nightly needs so hundreds of millions of battery cells are not needed .

Really?!?!?
Coal fired electric plants,.they give off heat and CO2.
Appliances give off heat.
Grab a light bulb after it's been on for 15 min,fry some fingers.
So, now we have CO2 and we have billions of heat sources and IF the global warming croud is right (?) electricity does have an effect.
Actually ,it's a little bity thing called the SUN.
And it's putting out more energy ,as it's done occasionally for billions of years.

anything we consume at some point does have something to do with contributing toward polluting the earth therefore the global warming people believe it is the evil that IS causing global warming.
But the messenger (Al Gore) doesn't do anything to be an example to his own message so how does he expect others to buy it.

haha.. look up al gores home.. the avg. American use around 10k of power a year.. al gore used over 200k last year...

most people in hollywood used over 210k a year...

but in general it is because we did what that more on algore and the wackos in the 1970s wanted and stayed away from nuke power and stayed with cold-fire coal plants which make most of the power in the US today...

i am not a follower of the OMG GLOBAL WARMING Fraud.. but if i was... i would blame the enviromental wackos for it.. it is all that movements fault we are not on nuke power which burns 100% clean.. oh.. by the way france is like 96% run on nuke power and china will be buiding more than 92 nuke power stations in the next 3 or 4 years.... thank you al gore for destroying the earth with your 1970s wacko anti-nuke power lets burn coal movement

by the way.. I am kidding... al gore is a smart guy.. look at the number of people he has fooled

Electricity must be generated. Do you believe there is an energy fairy who makes it possible for your lights to come on when you flip the switch?

The process that goes into making electricity does... unless you get it through renewable energy like wind, water or solar.

Hope you can put a better spin on it than that! What about the fact he's a big oil tycoon?

Edit: Let's keep it in context, shall we? You ask why "people keep confusing".....well, the only repeated topic on which people have "confused" electrical usage and causes of global warming would be the discussions concerning Al Gore's uber-homes.

"Then there is the troubling matter of his energy use. In the Washington, D.C., area, utility companies offer wind energy as an alternative to traditional energy. In Nashville, similar programs exist. Utility customers must simply pay a few extra pennies per kilowatt hour, and they can continue living their carbon-neutral lifestyles knowing that they are supporting wind energy. Plenty of businesses and institutions have signed up. Even the Bush administration is using green energy for some federal office buildings, as are thousands of area residents."

But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore's office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes. Talk about inconvenient truths."

"As executor of his family's trust, over the years Gore has controlled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oxy stock. Oxy has been mired in controversy over oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas."

Yes it does not come from Coal fired plants or diesel plants, All of it comes from running water. And Big Industrial factories do not make Generators and lamps and refridgerators and ETC ETC. Why don't you learn something!
