If I create a server using my computer for an online game can hackers find their way into my computer to steal private information?

If it is an open server (connected to the internet) then there is a possibility of hackers getting access to your computer but if it is a direct connection or a closed server then there is no problem.
Closed server means when it is not connected to the world Wide Web but to a local server.

Yes warning if you make a hasty installation or misconfigure the server software you can get hacked badly as well.
You should check with your ISP because some of them don't
allow their customers to set up servers.
