I'm not sure what you are asking. Do you mean decendants of immigrants in America vs. those immigrating now? Very different, if I'm interpreting your question right. I am part Irish (2 great grandparents), and I have a friend that immigrated from Ireland 10 years ago. And, our traditions, etc. are VERY different! If you mean those still in Scotland and Ireland vs. those immigrating now, then I would have to say there are very little differences.

Most Irish prefer to think of themselves as European now.

George Bush's family are from Ireland? Stands to reason ththat he would have Irish relatives .... but then so does half of the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and mmany other countries around the world.

Are they Similar ? Nope, Ireland is a developed country now and so is Scotland, so the people that are immigrating today if there are many are probably highly educated , way back they were moistly poor people are people escaping the potato famine

i think the only similarities they share is some strains of genetics. come on....American 'scots' think that william wallace is called Braveheart, or all the ones ive met have!
Americans seem to hang on to an idealised idea of their ancestors..i bet many Americans are shocked when they come to Ireland to find people who dont eat potatoes, drink guinnes and fight...or come to scotland not to see us running about in kilts through the hills eating haggis. oh yeah, and the lack of ginger people must be a shock too!!

in my personal experience, my aunts who went to USA have an irish household which I can relate to immediately - although there are american ways about them, my uncle on the other hand who married an american woman, had a different household - which I presume is more american as the person raising the family cooking etc etc is american.
However my father moved to UK amd married an Irish woman so whilst I was born and bred in England and relate to English, I can also relate to Irish.

They are identical.

All modeern Scotish people have ginger hair and wear kilts just as those immigrants of days gone by.

They also eat a similar diet of haggis and deep fried Mars Bars, and are loath to part with any money, especially when it is their round in the bar.
