I'm a big Steve Nash fan but I'd have to say Dirk Nowitzki is the best shot this year. I agree with the concept that the M.V.P is the most valuable player to the team and not the best player but you really got to consider the facts:
1. Dirk Nowitzki is having a career year and is a great leader of
the Mavericks
2. Sometimes (wither it's right or not) voters will want new blood
(remember Karl Malone and Charles Barkley winning the MVP
3. The Mavericks are having too good a year for fans and voters
to ignore. just their style and depth
Don't get me wrong, I don't believe the Mavericks are good just cause they got Dirk. however I still believe Nowitzki is a big part of their success. On a final note I'm sure Dirk's old teammate
Nash would love see him win the MVP.

People really seem to foul up what the MVP means. And it's not surprising because no where is it clearly defined how the MVP award should be awarded.
The MVP should not be handed out to the Most Valuable Player on his team. Many think Steve Nash should win because of this reason. I would argue Chris Bosh is more important to his team than Nash is to the Suns. No Bosh and the Raptors challenge Boston for the Kevin Durant sweepstakes.
So clearly there should be other criteria. The Most Valuable Player should not be the Most Valuable Player of the Phoenix Suns rather the MVP of the entire NBA. It's hard to phatom that player coming from a losing team. It would have to come from one of the elite teams in the NBA.
I totally disagree with the previous poster the MVP SHOULD be the best player. It should go to the best player who put forth the best effort during the season. Certainly one measuring stick would be the team's record. Another is the player's individual statistics. And the last would have to be what you see with your own two eyes.
This year I see the Dallas Mavericks dominating the NBA. Dirk Nowitzki's numbers are typical consistent Dirk numbers. With my own eyes I see Dirk making his teammates better. He's averaging a career high in assists and has flirted with a triple double in the last 2 weeks. Contrary to Dwyane Wade's opinion Dirk has become the leader of this Maverick team. His personal growth in leadership, defense, passing (particularly out of double teams), and his willingness to drive the ball to the basket not settle for jump shots and get to the free throw line are all huge improvements from where he was before Avery joined the Mavericks.
Clearly Dirk is the MVP this year

I think the topic of MVP has been confused. It's the Most Valuable Player, not the best player. Steve Nash is the Most Valuable Player in the league. Without Nash, the Suns don't win. He makes everyone around him better. Had anyone outside of Arizona heard of Amare Stoudamire or Marion before Nash came along? He is the most valuable player to that team, and should win his third MVP...

I think it is possible for Steve Nash to win a third-straight MVP. The Mavs may have the win streak right now. But can anyone think back two months ago when Nash led the suns to 17 staight wins? He deserves to be the MVP because he doesn't just play for him self. He plays to win.

Nowitzki is a good choice but I think that without him they will still have Jason Terry and Josh Howard to step up and play. I think the Suns have proven that they cant win without Nash. I mean they lost 4 of 6 when he wa shurt before the all star break. NASH FOR MVP.

may be not. if the dallas mavericks continue to string up 12-game consecutive winning streaks and end with the best league record, sportswriters who vote the mvp can't ignore dirk nowitzki.
it's dirk's time to be mvp!
