Why are people so afraid to say what they really think?

Question

I read a lot of the questions and answers on here.
You can tell the age groups by the way they are answered.
Preteens and teens,can not spell well and do not know how to phrase the questinos..Does he like me? How can I tell?How do I get rid of blackheads?
Young adults answer questions with anger and rightousness...Bush this--Bush that...The men its 80 % sex. The older people dont ask two many questions but do try to convey a message upon answering...
But except for a few ---NO ONE ACTUALLY TELLS WHAT THEY REALLY FEEL OR THINK...Dont want to make someone mad? Afraid?To chicken to stand up for what you believe in? Just follow the crowd?

you spelled questions wrong.. teen or preteen? but i think you answered your own question.. they just dont want to make people mad by standing up for what they believe in to follow what the crowd is doing.. and what is the crowd doing?? what the rest of the crowd is doing.. trying not to make people angry.. i wish there were more people with your mind set.. if i make you angry so what.. deal with it...

If you really thought people were afraid to speak their mind you are mistaken.There are lots of interesting questions out there.There are many similar questions because many people share similar concerns. As for speaking their minds you must be overlooking the posters who , at best, are never going to wear out their brain. I'm talking about posters who promote hate and racism.They intend to offend and get a hostile reaction.They feed on this type of reaction.It makes me sick. I try not dignify their questions with answers but sometime I just can't help myself. Let me tell you I'd rather read about grade school.polls and opinions,music ,and yes even blackheads than about hate.There is a variety of topics and anonymity so why not feel free to give your opinion.Keep in mind,whether on-line or not you are still accountable for what you say.As for telling age according to the questions asked,keep in my that the issues faced by a teen may only seem minor because you have already survived the teen years.Try remember how you felt.

Could it possibly be a sense of being polite and trying to respect the views of others? Tact I believe its called... though I find that it seems that it's not used often enough for my liking. One can express their actual feelings without resorting to shouting and expletives perfectly fine... but when you resort to that sort of behaviour, you tend to undermine any validity you may have had and are often dismissed as some kook ranting on and not worth listening to. Reasonable discourse that respects the views and feelings of others is not by default hiding ones opinions, simply stating those opinions and feelings in a manner that is not confrontational or inflammatory. When you start off with statements and comments that are confrontational or inflammatory, you set a tone for a discussion that often moves away from actual discussion and more towards shouting matches, and any opportunity for understanding and at least some modicum of respect for the views of others is quickly lost. There is little point to any discussion if that is it's basis.
