My partner and I are both Australian and we are wanting to wed in the Philippines later in the year. We have had trouble getting through to the Aust consulate in Manilla to ask further questions about obtaining the marriage certificate and the CNI. Do we have to get the marriage certificate in Manilla and do appointments usually have to be made or can you just show up? Do you definately get one if you have all the right paperwork (10 days). Also does anyone know whether we are recognised as being married in Queensland? Does this just involve changing my last name?
We are thinking of getting married at Fridays at Boracay - has anyone wed there before? Or have any suggestions for another location.

...Sorry so many questions - so little time...
Thanks D

Why don't you get in touch with the Philippine Consulate. They may be able to offer you the correct advice.

Try some of the hotels in Boracay. They may cater for weddings and will have a resident Wedding Planner.

If not, they'll certainly know one.

Wedding Planners are big in The Philippines so find one and they should be able to help you.

hmm... the philippines has a lot of requirements in order to get a marriage license... so unlike the US or canada. they require family planning classes from the city health department at least... and a church seminar on family and marriage.

hmm.. maybe what you could do is get legally wed in australia and have a ceremony in boracay.

that's what me and my husband did. i'm filipina living in canada and he's american. i really wanted to get married in the philippines but we don't have much time since my husband was working as an auditor at that time and it was a busy audit season. so what we did was that we wed legally here in canada. we bought the marriage license and the next day contacted a marriage commissioner to administer the legal ceremony. it was super simple... at my parents house. the only witnesses were my parents and his parents.

after we got all the legal stuff in the bag, we proceeded to plan our nice wedding in the philippines. it wasn't legal or anything... but it was a beautiful ceremony and a wonderful reception celebrated with family and friends.

when i got there, there was no worries about filing for papers and attending seminars which i don't really need since i don't live in the philippines.

so my advice is to get legally wed in australia just to get that out of the way... just something simple and low-key. then have your dream wedding and celebration in boracay.

that will solve your worries about being recognized as being married in queensland and forgoing all the unecessary legal loopholes.
