What about the Canadian government? Canadian news is always filled with American news, America never puts Canada in the news, on the weather channel they show Canada but totally block out the weather. Also many students know who the President is but have no clue who the prime minister is....WHY!

I guess because Canada really is like the person in your class that you never really notice. They never cause any kind of problems, never are in any international controversy. Canada just kind of does it's thing... quietly. In most ways they are an extension of America. Kind of like America's quiet polite cousin who never starts anything at the family dinners. However, everything that goes on in America affects them tremendously, so they are always watching what we do.

In one way, they are fortunate not to be caught up in all of the international problems like the United States are. Maybe they are smarter for that. I personally love Canada and wish as Americans we were more like them, just do you thing and don't bother other countries.

The answer is simple mathematics. Canada has 33 million people. The US has 300 million. Our Canadian friends find themselves awash in all things American because their security and economy depend on the US. The US president has a very real impact on Canadians, whereas the Canadian PM has very little impact on Americans.

Please don't take this response as some sort of slap at Canada, as nothing could be further from the truth. I live near the border, I do business in Canada, I played my junior hockey in Canada, and I absolutely love Canada and Canadians.

Economically, what is good for the US is good for Canada and being Canada's largest trading partner is an important factor. Just look at the mad cow disease and the impact that the American governments ban on imported Canadian beef had on the agriculture of Canada. As far as the coverage of Canada goes? The American media is a political noise machine and they don't trouble themselves with what happens outside of our borders unless it directly affects the US.

Maybe the Canadian Gov't doesn't do anything worth talking about. Canada is mentioned in the US news from time to time like those sex clubs in Montreal. US news isn't real news anyway. Who the hell cares about Anna Nichol Smith or Brittany Spears? There's a million things going on on this planet that deserve attention but all we get is a bunch of crap. TV journalism has turned into supewrmarket tabloid journalism.

Canada, the land of the boring. America makes good news. People shot and killed every day. White collar crime, Martha, ghettos, Bill Clinton, ...Hillary, Bill Gates, George Bush, the Hill Side strangler, need I go on. The most interesting thing about Canada in recent history was your former prime minister Jean Chretien. Now he was interesting. Of course you get all the American news, after that all you have is the CBC and little Mosque on the Prairie.

Because America is big and rich and powerful and the whole world cares about what's going on in America and what the American president is up to and Canada isn't and nobody cares much.

Sorry

America only has news regarding either our closest ally (not much of that either) or of our greatest threat and enemy. Americans don't care about government they care about continuing their way of life, so they care about anything that threatens that.

because they're a lot more informed than americans, and they have better news programs. would you rather they be more like the us, and fill their news shows with issues like the paternity of anna nicole's kid and brittney spears breakdown?
