Invading Iraq was the most logical step in overthrowing the Iranian government whilst losing the least American soldiers.
I believe one of the objectives was to put so much pressure on the Iranian extremist government that they will go bankrupt before they can actually get a nuclear weapon.
Their mostly pro-western peoples will be dissatisfied to say it mildly and overthrow the current extremist.
Let's face it the Sha was the worst as far as the Iranians felt and they have "settled" for an extremist government that has improved living standards for them. If standards drop with their economy teetering on the brink of bankruptsy do not be suprised if another pro-western government emerges with a military coup.

Afghanistan to their east and Iraq on the west. One point of the axis of evil is surrounded and under immense pressure to attain a nuclear power they cannot afford to gain in such a short period of time. Yet it is their only avenue to keep their extremist terrorist sponsoring government intact. Therefore they hope for the best with Achmidinahjhad's statements "We are full steam ahead with our nuclear proliferation." They realize attaining nuclear power is their only hope. That is why they will NOT budge whether discussions are unilateral or multi lateral. This will only buy them time. A commodity that they have very little of.

If the N. Korean's did such a thing as give Iran a nuke it would most definitley signal their regimes demise. Such economic pressure would be put on China to finally act would cause them to simply pull the plug on the N. Koreans. China supplies North Korea with all it's food and most of it's energy. This has been within China's capability all along. They are merley sitting back and allowing current world events to eventually work in their favor.

China's economic growth has risen an unprecidented 10% for the 4th year in a row mostly due to United States trade relations. Yet whom will be their economic partner to keep their economy a stable one....they need us as much as we need them at this point. North Korea has recently come to an agreement which is far better than the one Clinton worked out with them.

I agree it would still be catostrophic for this to happen but it would signal the end for the North Koreans so I doubt it will ever happen.

It wouldn't surprise me. The question is really whether or not the world can unite against such a threat from the American government and convince them that responsibility in the international community applies to them too. If the UN / International community could convince them that unilateral decision making would result in their isolation [anyone for trade sanctions against America? - Didn't think so], the other threats such as Iran and N Korea would have less grounds for suggesting that it's one rule for one and one for another. Sadly, I think we live in a realist world not idealist one.

The Iranians and N. Koreans are not technically advanced as they want everyone to think.
And if they did form an alliance with Iran - which is highly improbable - and decided to attack the USA, I for one would put all my money on the Americans kicking their *** all the way to hell.

It's impossible. Radical Islamists (who are ready to die for Allah) WON'T make any alliance with the "godless" North Koreans.

Even if they did, it will be dificult to carry out the alliance. The UN sanctions will STOP any Iranian from travelling outside of Iran and communication lines will be monitored.
