the above contradicts my definition of a friend. this is such a one sided relationship - if she were your friend, she'd understand you better. Find another person that you'll feel free to talk to. Learn to be assertive - http://www.utexas.edu/student/cmhc/booklets/assert/assertive.html

Some people get of on complaining and it brings all of us down.
Find a friend who doesn't complain so much or you will end up a Very depressed individual.
Complaints are okay if they are legitimate, but a person with a psychological flaw thinks that they have nothing interesting to talk about, so they do what they know will spark interest in what they have to say.
They don't stop to think that one can only complain so much and then people tend to tune them out.
Complaints are not supposed to be a main topic, just a slight vent and cry for help.
In her case though, she is really lonesome for someone's attention and going about it all wrong.
She will never change, so you need a more mature and better balanced friend.
Many of these complainers go off or commit suicide, so watch yourself around her.

Good friends are there to listen to each other when they have problems in their lives, but after weeks or months of hearing them complain about the same problem, it can get tiring. You could have a talk with your friend and set some kind of time frame for talking about problems. For example, agree on 15 minutes that would be set aside to vent problems, after which you move on to other things.

Sounds like you are a great friend. It is important to let your friends vent, even if you have heard it all before. If you feel like you are not being heard than just say so. Tell your friends that you need some time to talk about what is going on in your life.
