Many cities and at the federal level newt gingrich is trying to ban the N word. Sounds like a good thing, but whats next? this is the way thay condition people to accept restrictions on free speech. Also, congress is trying to pass a bill that would require you to register with congress in order to criticize congress. What is your opinion on this unconstitutional legislation?

Supreme court will never let that stand. The Govt. cannot ban any use of language it is completely against the first amendment. It wouldn't stop there, I can think of MANY MANY words that are worse or more insulting than that one. Newt is just trying to get back into politics and needs the minority vote. Remember this is the same guy who tried to remove Sesame Street.
He is a total Bigot, just ask his lesbian Sister.
As for registering to criticize...no. However, I do believe you should be a registered voter to protest etc... Everybody in the US has the right to criticize their country. Thats what this country was founded on.
If by some INSANE chace that passed it would be overturned by next session of the supreme court.

I move in the opposite direction: I think we should use it ALL the time. Overuse will sap the power that this word has and make it no more of less offensive than any other epithet.
The registration has me bothered more. I admit that I should be able to make a statement that is patently false, but I am allowed the opportunity to make it. Did we elect these morons?

Just that, it is unconstitutional. I expect the Supreme Court would never let it stand. The first amendment is pretty clear on freedom of speech.

Sounds like a gross violation of our 1st Amendment rights.
All citizens should be leery of government on any level talking about banning speech.

Because there are better alternatives to the N-word that aren't offensive. Such as Porch Monkey.

ill use ****** just to spite them. the word is devalued the more it is used. banning it would only give it more effect. if they don't like the word they have every right not to use it but they have no right to prevent others from using it. it doesn't hurt anyone or if they are that easily hurt than they deserve it.
