some english guys were testing frog populations in england and found that the frogs were having sex problems, they thought it was the water but the water tested ok.. there was a plastics factory upstream and they tested the water there it was ok. what they found was that the plastics were being made with female estrogens ( i don't know how ) and it was affecting the fish and frogs down stream.. it did'nt show up on the tests because they were'nt looking for it. thats why i don't like drinking bottled water because most of the time its in plastics. you have to avoid cooking and plastics as much as you can.

Poor froggies! To be innocently swimming along and then suddenly lose your penis. Females get off on the idea of males being emasculated, so I bet they're all thrilled with this story. (Which is why I'm glad I'm gay)
As for the scientists... where the heck have THEY been all these years?! They told us 12 years ago in the movie JURASSIC PARK about how frogs could change sex, and in fact that was a pivitol part of the whole movie. Why are these scientists suddenly acting shocked and amazed, as though no one knew about it before.
The ability to change sex like this makes sense (though it gives me the creeps), since the clitoris is simply an under-developed penis and the labia is a scrotum that hasn't sealed together (technically, every straight guy that goes down on a girl is actually sucking an undeveloped penis).

Well, they play a major part in sexual development before birth while the sex organs and brain are developing. After birth they play a big part too. For example during puberty they determine if the body develops the secondary sex traits of a man or a woman like wide hips or a deep voice. Even after puberty they can have a big effect too but they often can't undo what has already been done.

I did know about them. No, testosterone and estrogen levels are not the only difference. The social rules are different, as are the average sizes, as well as the brains being different slightly.

Only insofar as there are certain intersex individuals who are genetically male but have the appearance of being women (vaginas, breasts etc) because they lack the testosterone receptors in order to develop as healthy, functioning males.

Did you know that temperature during incubation affects the gender of most amphibians?
Did you know that clown fish can change their gender at will if need be for propagation of the species?
