just wondering what your experances are with this. I also have to have an epidural. This wasnt my choice but the specialist as i have a possible heart problem and he wants bub out as quick and stress free as possible once active labor starts. Any other advice on labor would be great. Thank you

I would hate to worry but there are always possible complications with any sort of hospital visit birth. It is good to know of them, but not to let yourself stress about them. Really, this situation would not likely happen to you. Also technology his better than 23 years ago. My sister, who is now 23, was delivered with forceps and the doctor dislocated her shoulders and she was on a body cast for a couple of months. This lead to other problems, but now, she is a healthy young woman and doing well. Best wishes to you, I am sure your doctor will take excellent care of you and your child.

Based on my experience with deliveries I would do the forceps. Keep in mind with a vacuum they are actually pulling the child by the head and sometimes that can cause the baby's head to have a coned shape. The epidural usually numbs the pain from the waist down and what fun would labor be if you couldn't actually experience all that is required to bring a precious child into this world.

I had to use an epidural and forceps for my daughter as well but this wasnt known until the minute. I would calm down and take some relaxing breaths though! Im sure your doctor has your best interests in mind and knows what he's doing!

I have been bedside at a bunch of vacuum deliveries and one forceps. They are manageable. The epidural should help a lot with pain control. I am always in favor of the LEAST amount of medical intrusion during delivery. Exceptions are everywhere! Sounds like your doc has a good handle on what he thinks will be best for you (although I am sure that some midwives would beg to differ). The only thing I would want you to concentrate on at this point is that: all this rigmarole is going to result in your little one in your arms. Have a trusted soul with you to help cheer you on. Good Luck! :)

i had an epidural and forceps delivery with my first baby, not by choice either, just relax and trust that your doctor has you and your babies best interest at heart, continue to inform yourself about the process of labour, take some classes and be as prepared as possible, childbirth is a wonderful experience dont let the anxiety of your situation detract from that Good Luck

relax....relax....relax.....take plenty of cleansing breaths...

forceps....can leave skin damage to tears when they clamp them around the babys' head to gently extract him/her

vacuum....could leave a circular hematoma (collection of blood under the skin) when the vacuum was applied to his/her scalp

good luck!
