Britain was great, it has been decimated by this government over the last ten years with its tax, tax, tax, attitude, rights for all if you're an immigrant, a religous fanatic or a so called minority group. If you were originally British it's stuff you and lets erode more of your rights. I see nothing wrong in working with America, all a German- Franco led EU has done is make us weaker. When Americans like below talk about imperialism they should remember Vietnam, Afganistan, Iran, Hawaii etc

Do you think Lady Thatcher was sucking up to America during the cold war? It's called an ally.
Was there a net benefit in the 1940's maybe?
Maybe you should ally with the Muslims against the US and see where that gets you.
Of course you may want to become a Muslim or are one, and I understand your question?

There's a lot more going on behind the scenes between Britain and the USA than the public is aware of...

I think Britain plays second fiddle to the USA simply to keep the focus off their imperalism in the world and more on the USA's...

Taxes on window screens, water taps, televisions, poll tax...tax, tax, tax. You can't walk around the corner in Britain without getting hit in the face with another tax. There is also the general dependence on the government by the people in Britain where the people in the U.S. are more independent, they're less afraid to take matters into their own hands when the government fails in it's duties (the civilian border patrol, i.e. the Minutement, for example). The U.S. is a stronger country because of it's people, not because of it's government. The more the people of any country give up responsibility for themselves and turn that responsibility over to the government the weaker that country becomes. Don't worry though...the way the U.S. is going we won't be a super power for much longer.

We have strong financial links in the city, plus America gives us a lot of military technology. Both of these things are v important to governments. Bear in mind at the top level it comes down the charisma/personality of the leader in question - and currently we have an self obsessed oily lawyer as our leader.

Europe doesn't have the same culture of money as the UK or US and probably despises war mongerers because of WWII.

We're starting to ape the worst parts of US culture, but that was always going to happen as we become apathetic and ambivalent to our own heritage. Historical revisionism has indicated that building our great empire did require significant quantities of pissing on native populations from a great height, so we're in a period where the question of who and what it is to be British is more pertinent than it has, perhaps, ever been.

We need to align ourslef with somewhere, and as there is quite a strong anti-Euro feeling, America seems a better bet. There's been a long history of an alliance, its been good for our economy and probably helped with graitude to America during WW2.

I understand that it seems a bit one sided recently with GW's disaterous Iraq campaign, and I think the UK will have learnt it's lesson. For example, with all this talk of Iran strikes, Blair has already said that he would be agaianst it, making his position clear early on in defience of America.

What is with this Hate America stuff? Just because GB and 30 some other countries have stood with us in Iraq does that mean that we bullied them? You don't give much credit to our neighbors.

Sorry, but it is true, we do control your prime minister, as well as most other leaders throughout the world. But don't worry, once we are done using up Britain, within the next several hundreds of years, then we'll just move on to the next. ;)
