6) If, on the average, 1 and a half chicks (chickens) each lay 1 and a half eggs in 1 and a half days, how long will it take a chick to lay 1 and a half dozen eggs?

7) If 1/2 = 1/2 and 1/1 = 1/1, let's add 1 to both sides of equality.

1+1/2+1 = 1 + 1/2

Or, 2/3 = 3/2! What's wrong?

8) 2 666/6 665 = 2/5 (cancel out all the 6's)
Is the answer correct? Is the method correct?

9) Mary made curtains for her room. A set of these curtains required 4 and a half metres of curtain material and 5 and a half metres of binding. How many metres of binding did she use?

10) What is the least number of litres of wine, expressed by a whole number, that will exactly fill, without waste, bottles having volumes, respectively, of 3/4, 5/8 and 5/9 litres?

6) 18 days

7) 1/2 = 1/2 and 1/1 = 1/1
But the two equations are not equal now as 1/2 doesnt = 1/1

Therefore if you add 1 to each equation they will still not be equal.

8) The answer is correct, but the method is not correct.

9) Surely it is 5 1/2 metres - as it says so.

10) 2 litres

3/4 = 54 / 72
5/8 = 45 / 72
5/9 = 40 / 72
Adding them up gives 139/72 = 1.931 litres, so you would need 2 litres.

6). If one and a half chick lays one and half eggs in one and half days, then
In same time period, one chick will lay one egg.
That is one chick lays one egg in one and half days.

One and half dozen is 18 eggs.
So, one chick takes 18 times 1 and 1/2 days.

i.e., 18*3/2=27 days.

7) The mistake is in adding
(1/2)+(1/1) is not equal to 1+1/2+1

(1/2)+(1/1) = (1/2)+(2/2) (because 2/2= 1/1)
Now the denominators are same

So (1/2)+(1/1) = (1/2)+(2/2) = (1+2)/2 =3/2.

2666/6665 is not equal to 2/5 because the 6's cannot be cancelled like that.

2666 = 2000+600+60+6
and 6665 = 6000+600+60+5

So, 2666/6665 = 2000+600+60+6/6000+600+60+5

Now you can see that the values of sixes are different and they are ADDED and not MULTIPLIED.

In algebra xxxy/zxxx means x*x*x*y/z*x*x*x. That is they are multiplied. and value of each x is x itself.

Both the answer and method are incorrect.

9) i ave not understood this. May be requirse more info.

10) The nearest whole number to the sum of all these volumes is 2. But little wine is wasted. i really don't know how to solve this.
