Ignore most of the posters above. They're very ignorant. If you've been trying to conceive for the past 12 months unsuccesfully (or just 6 months if you're age 35 or older), then trust an expert - a Reproductive Endocrinologist. An RE is a Gynocologist who has two years additional training in Fertility. Make sure the RE is actually, officially BOARD-CERTIFIED specifically in the field of Reproductive Endocrinology. Before you go to one, be ready to give him/her the first day of "full flow" of your most recent period as of the time of the appointment. An RE will right away do a blood test on you to make sure you're not going through early menopause. An RE can also do a Semen Analysis on your partner to make sure the sperm is normal and healthy. If something isn't right, you may be wasting a lot of time on superstitions and useless "home-grown" remedies. There are many treatments in medicine that have been clinically proven to work, but first it's better to try to figure out that's going on and an RE is the best person to help you do that.

stress is the number one thing to prevent pregnancy...
is he wearing boxers?
do either one of you smoke? (POT especially)
are you both fertile (does he produce MOTILE sperm and do you produce eggs?
have either of you had any STD's (PID for the ladies)?
do your parts work? is the sperm reaching the egg in the fallopian tube?
do you stay in bed for 60 minutes after he ejaculates into your vagina?
are your periods regular (every 28 days? if so, are you having intercourse 2-3 times a day between days 11 and 16 of your cycle?
the hardest thing to do is get rid of the stress...you are so stressed out because you can;t have kids, you wont get any..
the next easy thing to do is to have him take a fresh 'specimen' into the lab so that the tech can see if those little suckers swim good...he will need a RX from the doctor to do this
if they do, and you have gotten rid of all of your stress...you may need a visit with a fertility specialist to run you (the wife) through a battery of tests to see if you are ovulating, your fallopian tubes are patent and then as a last resort...maybe a GIFT or similar...
good luck

i waited thirteen years for my second child after conceiving my first almost straight away so nothing ever goes to plan! if you have been having unprotected sex for about 12 months and you have tried timing sex with the time of month that you should be ovulating, then you may need to seek the help of a proffessional fertility doctor in order to rule out any possible barriers to conceiving, good luck im sure you wont have to wait as long as i did!

You have to make sure you're not stressed out.
A friend of mine wanted a baby so bad that it basically prevented her from having one.
Once the doctor told her to relax and concetrate on making love, it will happen.

But ofcourse you could always go to the doctor with your husband and make sure you're both 'alright'

I was on birth control when I got pregnant with our daughter, we decided a few months ago to try for another baby, so I quit my bc and it took over 4 months for me to get pregnant again. Most people say to watch when you ovulate thats the best time to get pregnant, they make tests to tell you when you are. Good luck

Cold beer and boiled shrimp worked twice for me. It has also worked for several friends. Don't know what makes it work, but it does.
