HI. I'm very shy person, but that annoys me so much that it makes me unpolite. I have to go to Greece and I can't stop thinking of that how will I speak English, I'm scared. That annoys my mother too, because I teach English and still I'm afraid to speak English....

I have the same problem
i am afraid of speaking English.
My first language is Polish.
I have many friends who live in the UK, USA or Canada. But I am afraid of speaking English. The worst thing is I would like to be a journalist. Its my dream but I dont think I could be a journalist.
I hope, we ought to speak English with other people. It makes us less afraid of speaking. Good luck:)

build up to it, just try by little steps, make eye contact with people as you walk and smile, when you pass people when there aren't so many around, say hi. Talk to people you do know, but don't talk to regularly. Become friendly and people will come to you. People are shy because they're low in self confidence, afraid that others aren't going to like the real them, so they use shyness as a defense mechanism. You need to build that up by becoming more sociable, go to very popular public places, like pubs or clubs. Shyness isn't terminal, you can cure it. All the best and have a good trip. xx

I used to be very shy when I was a child and a teenager. I guess I grew out of it but there are still instances when my shyness comes back.

Think of going to Greece as a way of re-inventing yourself. No one will know you there. Think of it as acting.

There is nothing wrong with being shy. You just have to mentally tell yourself that you are better than that and work through it.

i dont consider myself shy but i usually dont talk much, when i'm in a meeting or just with friends or .... i just listen and i cant think of anything to say! that makes me sad...
