I've been unable to work since November 2005, and I am unable to claim any benefits dispite being disabled. The reason that I cannot claim is that I didn't pay enough National Insurance because I only managed to work part time. Had I not worked at all, I could have claimed then, and now, but because I chose to work as much as I could manage (albiet not much) I am not entitled to help.

Yep! They are a bunch of cretins BUT they are only working to the guidelines given in law - you should be able to claim other benefits though! Ring up the local Dept For Work and Pensions Offices and ask them - they have a bit more savvy about themselves than the JobCentre dweebs!
You should be entitled to Income Support - Housing Benefit (maybe) - Council Tax reduction and possibly others - YOU have to FORCE the issue - coz they won't offer the info freely

your best bet in all honesty is go to the Citizens Advice Bureau local to you.
explain all of your situation - take a sheet with everything on it as, being only human, there is always something important we forget to say at important times!! - and they will be able to tell you what all you are entitled to properly. no bias toward job agency or government.
i hope all goes well for you and your partner. life is never easy, but can be harder for some than others.
all the very best. xx

You should be able to get something, if your wife cannot get disability benefit she should be able to get incapacity benefit instead and maybe tax credits as well. The best thing to do would be to contact the CAB and get their help on this.
I keep hearing that there are so many people who are not claiming everything they are entitled to and it is just because the whole thing is so complicated and no one will explain it.

Have you tried to apply for Income Support? There is a minimum amount that every person has to live on, and if you can't get jobseeker's allowance, you should be able to get income support.
Your wife may also be able to claim disability allowance.

I really do think you should go and talk to someone either directly at the department of work and pensions and not the job centre or contact your local CAB for advice.

I sympathise. I had a collegue who worked full time as a nurse then went home to care for a partner with MS because no one else could do it.

go to your local law centre.or cab.also ask again at the job centre
what you are intitile to.i have had untold problems with them.i had to to give up work because of various medical conditions.in the end they did have to give me something.and make sure you get
your claim back dated from the day you claim from.because it
might take some time to get sorted.best of luck.
