Not just MTV, but like, their local Top 40 music radio station, like KISS FM. And that kind of hip-hop, pop, and rock that people won't even remember 5 years from now. Why do they like that stuff? Why do they think that is the only kind of music they'll ever play at parties, and what they'll listen to when they are adults and go to clubs?

I'm 13, and I'm that 5% left. I only like t.A.T.u., severel types of rock, and dance/electronica/techno. And me and my BFF know that at real clubs, they play techno music.

I think it's because that's the only music a lot of teens are exposed to, and have the easiest access to. When you turn on MTV or top 40 stations, this music is pretty much repeated over and over and over. As a teen, I was guilty of the same-I just didn't know where all the other music was hiding! It sounds like you're really into music and make the extra effort to seek out bands that aren't in the mainstream.

Well, you must understand that the "strong" thing in MTV is pluralism. Something that sounds bad for you maybe it is perfect for someone else. Information is good any way. When I was thirteen years old, I didn't have any access to foreign music from television.

There was actually only one program in TV, that "suffered" from cut offs for commercials, very often. When I finally gain some access to MTV near 1989-90, my cultural life change for good. Even the things that you call "trashes", were a bliss for me. Keep an open mind beyond the "what I like" think. It is OK to like some things and "reject" some others. But keep the QUOTATION in the "reject" word. Let things evolve.

I'm not a teen anymore, but I never was one to choose my music by what was popular at the time. I've always been fond of classic rock, songs that were made before I was born.

Teens now days see what is popular at the moment and automatically think they have to listen to that to be like the rest. They try to be so different by wearing all black clothes, or getting tatoos all over their body, perhaps they have a three ring binder pierced to their chest. They do all this to be different, yet all of them do it. So indeed they are no different than the next.

Teens worry too much about fitting in and not enough about what they actually like themselves.

Congrats, you're 13 and know everything. In 5 years you'll be 18 and after all the drugs you did you won't even be able to remember the songs that nobody can remember from now.

well how are you sure that 95% of teens like pop culture? I mean you probably only assume this because of your surroundings, but unless you accurately analyzed the situation, apropriately calcuated, and did some type of statistic on this subject, you can not suggest such huge number....
