You pretty much answered your own question. Our government does not care. There are more homeless walking the streets of our capitol than there are anywhere else in this country. The politicians and lobbists just step over them to go inside their "overpriced" restaurants for their 2 hour "lunch meetings". I have yet to see one of them hand over any left over food to any of them on their way out. This is the sick, sad truth of america. Our government has tricked the people for so long, they've become too powerful to overtake now. The reason why you have the rich are because of the poor. Our government will never cure the problems in their own country because there is no money in it for them to do so. Thank you and may GOD bless.

"
"Dan, not all of us Americans are pigs. We have a network of philanthropy throughout this land."

With very few exceptions, that network funds the Arts, PBS, and such. With the exception of Pres. Jimmy Carter's efforts very little is done to feed the hungry, provide adequate medical care for the working poor, housing for the homeless. It's time for the US to clean the sh!t off their own doorstep and butt out of the affairs of other countries. As a " Superpower" the US has very little time left if it doesn't start to look inward. Already too much control has been transferred to China. It may already be too late to reverse what has happened. It must be very frustrating for the asker and other Americans to see the decadence around them, the obsession with world domination, the money wasted on Space probes(so Pluto isn't a planet, who cares?) that doesn't put food on the tables of America or a roof over one Americans head. It stuns me that so many people in the USA think everyone else in the world is chomping at the bit to become an American. As a Canadian, I care a great deal for Americans and I can feel their frustration and it's heartbreaking. Enough said, I'm glad I was born north of the border. May God help America.

One of the problems with providing a subsidy to the homeless is that a subsidy always increases the incidence of what is being subsidized.

Another problem is that something like 80% of the homeless are this way as a result of substance abuse and mental disorder. Giving these people money is not going to help them in the long run.

This is not a problem that can be solved by throwing money at it.

it's unfortunate that the US goverment cannot see the ills of her own I totally agree with you but we as americans do not have the backbone to stand up and make our voices be heard. our gov officals don't care about the poor or lower class because their pockets are lined in green. no one cares there are no family values there is nothing left. I have written many letters to the whitehouse and do you know how many replies I have received? NONE because I am a single mother of three whose ex owes he a lot of money and refuses to pay and there is no one to fight for me without a price. I work 50 hours every week just to exist and I know I am not alone. I hate being an american more than that I hate having a mentally crippled idiot in office who couldn't even win fairly.... america is falling and the fall will be so great God Bless You

Dan, not all of us Americans are pigs. We have a network of philanthropy throughout this land.

Domestic issues in the United States are left wanting, and all for the "global cause". If we do turn all our efforts inward, to securing a healthy, compassionate country, then what will happen to the other parts of the world? It seems American must keep itself focused on the world as a whole to protect our Super Power status.

I agree with helping other nations THAT WANT OUR HELP...but believe we should be doing more for our home society. It is a sad state of affairs when we look outside our borders when we have so many deserving folk right here, right now.

May God have mercy upon our souls.

i totally agree that money is better spent elswhere but do not forget that some probably 60 per cent of homeless people choose to do that and are happy in their own world i know this from experience my ex husband is in that position but purely by choice he had the money to go and put a big deposit on unit or house but spent it all in one week on races and from what i believe still spends his pension on grog and betting do not have any respect for him and i guess that goes for a lot of them have not taken a survey on how many do it like that homeless kids is different but then again still have to look into their choices some just dont like house rules and choose to live on the street.
My ex even got a unit minimal rent paid by government but would not stay there it was in lovely small country town but only 1 hour from city.
