I don't think that they're healthy. Particularly not for very young girls. I think it can be damaging. Society puts too much of an emphasis on looks & it can drive women to starve and abuse themselves trying to meet some unattainable ideal of beauty.

The only good that may come of it is in raising someone's self-esteem if they're involved but I think more often than not it fosters a competitiveness, insecurity, jealousy & a focus on superficial beauty which is not good! Yes it is nice to be beautiful on the outside & to be recognized as such. But true beauty comes from within...

Beauty pageants are not important. It's nothing more than a competition and it teaches young girls exactly how to compete with one another at a very early age.

It's really very heartbreaking to see parents, (usually mothers) parade their daughters around like some possession.

The "winner" goes on to think she is more beautiful, more talented than anyone else and the "losers" are shattered....who in their right mind could ever set their child up for such a meaningless, soul shattering experience?!

I really wish they would do away with this type of thing. Everyone is unique in their own way and shouldn't be put on display.

Just my opinion.

i think the only importance of that is to raise young girls' confidence in themselves...

beauty pageant contestants represent their country beacause i think they only want to know which country has more talented, beautiful and great girls. they just want to compete with each other and to know who's more superior prior to beautiful women.

i think it is just not cool...

So that young girls can understand what its like to feel selfconcious and inferior to other girls. It helps them later in life to understand envy and jealousy. Also so they yearn to be unhealtily skinny.
