Malaysia is a multi-cultural, multi-racial society. Other than the native malays and aborigines, more than 35% of the 25 million population are composed of citizens whose forefathers came from Indian subcontinent, China and a few other faraway places. They came in search of a brighter future, for Malaya (as Malaysia was known then) was extremely rich in natural resources, employment opportunities and offered a chance for them to make it big economically. Their descendents remained till this day, and the tolerant government and the legislations allow them to practice their religion and culture freely. Thus till this day, those of chinese descent will refer to them as Malaysian Chinese, or to cut out the long explanations, as chinese when asked by foreigners not in the know about Malaysian history.

No, Malaysia's not part of China n yes, he's correct. (twisted eh??)
Malaysia is located in South East Asia i.e. between Thailand and Singapore. China on the other hand located in far east of Asia. It's true most of people think that whenever someone from Asia refers him/herself as Chinese, they're often refered to China but in Asia, Chinese are everywhere. The person u refered to is Malaysian but his race is Chinese. I myself a Malay-Chinese mixed. Afterall, Malaysia is one of the multi-racial countries in Asia.

1. Malaysia is not part of China.

2. Your acquaintance was identifying himself by ethnicity - thus he's a Chinese Malaysian.

No. Malaysia is an independant country. True, they are both asian, but that doesnt make the chinese into malaysians anymore than it makes the malaysians into chinese.
