i had the gas shut off a few months ago. it sounds like water running in my fireplace. the cats go up to it. it is not raining outside. i live in a sunny climate.

its possible that you still have some left over gas in the pipes, if you can try starting up your fireplace and burning the left over fuel in the lines then the water sound should stop.

Hmm. could be a number of things. I hope you don't have a leaking pipe in the walls. Is the sound constant? Is it a house or condo or apartment? have you closed the flue? could just be wind sounds sounding like running water. I certainly hope so. It could simply be water pipes near the fireplace. The stone would act as a sound conductor and the fireplace an amplifier. Has your water usage went up significantly lately? Certainly, this is worth figuring out. Without actually seeing and hearing it for myself, I cannot be of more help, sorry.
