perhaps i should have expanded more... i do have every intention of telling the buyer that it does need replacing if i sell it as it is.... it was more a cost issue and is it worth my while as i've no idea how much my car is worth as it stands unfixed or how much its worth if i do fix it. there's nothing else wrong with it and its about 8 years old.

tricky one this, if its an old car with high miles worth under 600 then dont get it fixed, fixing it will cost 300-500 uk pounds unless you know a mechanic, dont take it to vauxhall they will rip you off, sometimes if the car is old maybe its time to scrap it,but dont sell it without claiming its gone, people will know, but if the car is new and got lots of life left then fix it and my advice sell it and get a german car, much more reliable.o and try not to rag the hell outta your car, then the gaskets will like you and not blow:)

To knowingly sell a car that needs a new head gasket would be little better than fraud. It depends how old the car is really. You can pay hundreds of pounds to fix a head gasket so what you need to do is;find out the cost of your repair, find out the value of your repaired car and if the resulting balance would be a profit then repair the car and sell it on.You could always advertise the car truthfully but I doubt you'd get any takers. If it's an old corsa, you may just be better scrapping it and starting again. Sorry if this isn't good news,I've been in the same boat!

You will get more money for it if you repair it, but then if you are selling it, whats the point in spending more money???
Just make sure when you advertise it that you state it needs a new head gasket as its illegal to sell a car with a fault that you know about and not tell the buyer

Sell as it is but you are obliged to tell the buyer that it is in need of attention. Non disclosure could make you liable to pay for the repair at a later date after you have sold or give a complete refund on the sale.

You must tell whoever might buy it. I think with a head gasket gone it would break down before they got it home. Its not the gasket which costs, its the labour. Even an idiot would see the results of a blown gasket. Sorry
