Helps smooth out the shape of your skirt/dress. Also it makes it more opaque if you are wearing a sheer on. If you are lit from behind, for example standing in front of a window, then people will be able to see through it.
I always wear a slip but some people think it's old fashioned. It can be attractive too as guys usually notice with a bit of lace peeking out from your skirt when you sit down/stand up. It's a noticeable effect!

Obviously there are a lot of skirts & dresses that you can't wear a slip with but it's meant to make your skirt less see through and to help it hang right and not be clingy. So many skirts are unlined or don't have nice lining and I like the feel of smooth material next to my skin so I love wearing a slip. Plus, if you're wearing a nice slip guys think its sophisticated and sexy.

A slip is worn under an unlined skirt/dress for modesty and warmth. Full slips sometimes have integrated bras which is also helpful.

To prevent boys from seeing your undies- but I think the invention of the thong has helped cut down on having to wear them! OR you know how some girls like to be free underneath and don't wear any thing!

Because of static. It looks and feels clunky when your skirt sticks to your legs when you walk.
