I know my answer may not go with what you are looking for, BUT In my opinion, select a song that goes with this persons personality. A song that he or she loved to hear. I myself IF there is any kind of Wake or tribute for me would love the song FREE BIRD by Lynard Skynard. I know or knew someone who want the song Another bites the dust. Would this one comes across as appropriate. NO. But you gotta go with what the DECEASED would like, NOT what WE would like. Hope I helped you out here. Good Luck.

Queen - Another One Bites the Dust?
Joking - Find a cheerful song that was a personal favourite of the deceased person; preferably one that the mourners can quietly sing along to. People want to remember and be remembered with affection, so don't choose something portentious or dreary.
A local Brit went out to 'New York, New York', and the mourners sang along - the atmosphere, smiles and tears, made everyone fell better.

If you like country, Lonestar "I'm Already There", or Brooks and Dunn "I Believe", also "Go Rest High On That Mountain" by Vince Gill.
In a different mood, Sarah mclaughlin "Calling All Angels".
My favourite "Spirit In The Sky", can't remember who sings it, but I listen to it on the soundtrack from the movie "MICHAEL".

The person who passed is the one that decides with their lifestyle what music should be appropriate. When my friend's wife died at a young age, they played Cheap Trick's The Flame, which was a great song.. I hope when I go they play German Techno.. what the heck!

Knowing that those who really knew and understood me will have the same sense of humor, I've asked that Ding Dong the Witch is Dead be played at the end of the service.
My kids love the idea.

It depends on the person. Is it a parent? a sibling, a family member? a friend? young? older..etc...
there are many beautiful songs out there, but it really does depend on who the person is to you etc..
Celine Dion has two songs, one for mothers and one for someone who was seriously ill, then there is "Dance with my father again"
There are many, but it depends on who this person is to you

That would depend on the person. It may be a spiritual song, rock and roll, country, what ever. It should be one that meant something to the person.
