Regular sound broadcasting from both Houses of Parliament began in 1978 but it was not until 1985 that the House of Lords was first televised. The House of Commons followed suit on 21st November 1989. In each case, televising was begun on an experimental basis and then continued. The BBC is required by its Licence and Agreement to "broadcast an impartial account day by day, prepared by professional reporters, of the proceedings of both Houses of Parliament". This requirement is met by the Today in Parliament programme on Radio 4. In addition the BBC sometimes broadcasts Question Time live on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesdays, as well as other important debates such as the Budget. Continuous and unedited coverage of proceedings can be found on BBC Parliament.
