I am 24, married, only had one previous sexual partner, never been preggers, and definatly not at the moment - had hospital tests done. I have always had regularity with the old monthleys, but for no reason i stopped. i thaught that it may be some form of polysistic ovaries, got scanned, all clear (huge relief) but since then, over the last 12 months i have has 2 or 3 periods, but not my usual style. spoke to Dr, who says nothing to worry about, but i want to have kids in the next 3-5 yrs, will this be a problem? is there anything i can do / take to restart them? i don't feel at all feminine without them.

Senciable help only please.

My periods go all over the place too so I totally understand how you are feeling especially when they used to be so regular. Keep in close contact with your doctor, if you aren't happy with their support then switch doctors, (there's nothing worse than an unsympathetic medic). There are som alternative medicines that may help balance your monthly's i.e some aromatherapy oils can have an effect (lavender, chamomile (stay well away from Juniper oil though). Your periods can be linked to your stress levels and irregular periods could suggest that you may be under a lot of stress...alternatively have you gained or lost a lot of weight recently?

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is only diagnosed after all other conditions that cause hormone imbalance (much of which is tested thru bloodwork) have been ruled out, not just based on scans alone.

Because you are concerned about this and your dr doesn't think there is anything wrong I would recommend getting a second opinion, but not from someone that is a partner in the same office.

Only a guess : But are you by any chance very conscious of your weight ? Irregular eating or even dieting can stop your periods completely !!!!!! Check your daily intake of food for calorific value for your height, work etc, poss. BMI (Body Mass Index) and see what your ideal weight should be. Then act, if you are underweight. Go and see your GP, who can recommend a Dietitian for you to help you gain enough weight to be menstruating again. Just a shot in the dark !!! Good Luck.
