why is it ,even though it is a lottery, that most of the time the premiership,or higher ranked team always goes through.i mean occasionally a team will upset the big team like when vauxhall motors beat an big(ish)london club(name of club escapes me) on penalties a few years back but mostly it is always the big team who wins.why

The players from the premiership are usally more experience and have been in this situation before. However lower league teams are not as used to the situation and usally cant hold there nerve as well. But this doesnt always happen

Penalties have allot to do with luck, but the bigger clubs tend to have seasoned pro's, players who have been on the biggest stage, been put under immense pressure before. Add this to the fact that a premiership attacker will generally have a better finishing ability then a lower league player then its probably no surprise that the Likes of Liverpool (Alonso, Garcia, Gerard, Fowler, Crouch) would beat the likes of Preston NE in a pen shoot out. Having a good keeper can really help aswell!

Nerves? Pfft...what about depth of talent, experience of that talent, and the quality of that talent. Teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea can field squads of 11 international first team players and they can back those 11 with another 11 that have been internationally capped. It's a great dream of the Bristol Cities and Norwich's of the league, to maybe win away at Anfield or Old Trafford, but the reality is that unless a true football miracle occurs, the big team is going on, and the little team is going home.

I think the guys above are right .The pressure gets to the lower ranked team more and the pro's are more used to coping with that side of the game.I have taken part in a few and some times I feel completely confident and other times sh!t scared.

I confer with it as a lottery yet i do no longer think of it extremely is in reality. contemporary information and private examine can help the two the keepers and those taking the kicks. some goalies have a greater useful checklist at effects than others. in all fairness, whilst it did bypass to discover kicks the day previous i did no longer carry out lots wish of United's ending XI beating Petr Cech, extremely thinking the frailties shown by Ben Foster for the previous ninety minutes.

Practise man. Bigger teams have more time in training to practise penalties. Smaller teams usually don't practise as much.

And also nerves and composure. And experience.
