raised my children to be intelligent, caring people.
they can think for themselves, and they are tolerant of others beliefs.

you shouldn't chide people for the way they answer your question. you asked what the best thing we've done is. this is how we feel.
if you want something other then a family member - my son's ex girlfriend (by a couple of years) came to my door saying that her children didn't have anything to eat (not my sons children), so i gave her food and money. i don't know if what she said was true or not, but how could i take that chance?

worked for various charities
hard to say which was the best thing.
