ABRIDGED
Earl.. – Nothing should influence one’s life in the above context.
:: No criticism here, but the idealistic long and narrow road.

As_It.. – Rationality and logic..Base morals on empirical evidence and analyse..do not follow anything.
:: As long as other values are laid aside, a pragmatic way to survive but not live.

Flyin.. – “Family before country.. loyalty is dependable on current economic circumstances..(illustration below).. most will act according to logical self interest rather than emotional arguments..”
:: On the subject of loyalty, situations that give rise to fair weather friends are least on one’s mind.

Fast forward to illustration, if only a bit too close to home. A lucky strike if somewhat unnerving, one is not sure whether to thank or be repulsed, for getting at the heart of practical issues.

The complexities and practical aspects are simple yet mind boggling; implementation may be fraught with obstacles. Living cross continents is not an easy thing to do.

What will come to pass is either a loss of identity, subsumed within the collective in order to live peacefully in a society that is not of one’s choosing, or fly away. One has to question if it is possible to reject everything yet live life successfully in harmony within a contradicting environment.

Coolk.. – “..belong where your heart tells you to be..if the child wanted to adopt western values whilst family and/or peers want to remain true to their religion and cultural values..this day and age one should have the freedom to choose without prejudices how to live life..Family loyalties are important so is your faith but you should still live your own life as you see fit.”
:: Required is achieving the level of complexity of striking a compromise or to say the least, sustaining a game of pretend in the presence of family and an ancient society that expects certain values to be honoured.

First world wealth, iron clad in Third world or old traditions, values, morality and ethics. How one accomplishes playing a tiresome game of smoke and mirrors against one’s beliefs, values, everything, from dawn to dust, has certainly tested the mettle beyond this Asker. This answer may be as close as it gets and it gets more complicated.

Nzsta.. – “..surroundings and way raised, parents beliefs, on premarital sex , going to school, being political..family, or the lack of one.”
:: Indeed.

Sharo.. – “..loyalty to those that have shown that they deserve it..respect, affection and loyalty should not come as a matter of course..”
:: It is often in older cultures that loyalty is expected to be given regardless of being deserving.

family came before country or a rational system of government. Family past does influence loyalty, but loyalty is dependable on current economic circumstances, for example you wouldn't not go to a particular place just for the reason that your mother hates the people there for cultural reasons ie, you would go as the relocation package was persuasive and you could sharpen up your cv whilst there, Go with the current trend if the current trend is dangerously decisive upon future social conditions, most people will act according to logical self interest rather than emotional arguments, one believes,
In addition, perhaps it is not too close to home as you might think, know of many many expats trotting the globe with briefcase and or family in tow for the relocation package or the international cv aspiration. I like the challenge of adapting to newer things overseas,

You belong where your heart tells you to be.
I think your question has an sub-question regarding religion and origin.
For example: British born to Muslim parents. This could be difficult if the child wanted to adopt western values whilst his/her family and/or peers want to remain true to their religion and cultural values.
In this day and age you should have the freedom to choose without prejudices how you want to live your life.
Family loyalties are important so is your faith but you should still live your own life as you see fit.

i believe you should give your loyalty to those people that have shown in one way or another that they deserve it. respect, affection and loyalty should not come as a matter of course just because one is related.
