I think...
You're not on the path in life that you really, really desire to be on. If there is no sustained, consistent Fire & Passion in your Heart, you are probably moving in the Wrong Direction. If you have doubts & lack motivation, your Heart is trying to tell you that. The Heart knows it, even though your Mind denies it, which is why unexplained, unanticipated feelings of sadness occasionally swell to the surface. Your Heart is Feeling Sad for You, because You are Not Moving in the Right Direction of your True Love & Happiness. But only your Heart Knows the Real Truth of the Matter.
What decisions and factors propelled you on your current course in life? The expectations of others, parental approval, the need for security or respect, duty or obligation, not knowing other alternatives, because it was the "right", closest, or easiest thing to do? Many Problems of Life stem from the fact that we Listen to these Other Things, instead of Listening to Our own Hearts.
Are you really a rabbi, or a rabbi in training? If so, perhaps you shouldn't be one. Because being Heavenly & doing God's Work has Nothing to do with whether you are a rabbi or not, or whether you go to Temple or not. God's Work is far greater than we Human beings can fathom.
So You should Always, Always Listen to Your Heart. If your Heart is pulling you towards a certain direction in Life - then move in that direction. If after you start moving in that direction, and then your Heart tells you to Change Course, ... then do so! Because later on when you Look Back on your Life, you may see that All those Experiences were Necessary, Useful, and Valuable for you to get to where you are.
I truly wish you the best of Happiness - but only your Heart can Take you to It!

I have answered another question with the same idea. You are sad always from a motive that relates you're needs. If something goes wrong and because of that some need can not be satisfied any more then the body reacts and gives you a state that you don't want to have again. So it tells you that you have to change something in the future so this state shouldn't appear any more...it is like when punishing a little child for his mistakes...so learn.

Try meditation. Just sit crosslegged facing a wall for a while when that starts happening. Try not to engage your thoughts, just let them drift by.
This will help you to get more centered and be able to see why you feel as you do. Feelings are only feelings, they may have nothing to do with reality.

perhaps you're spending to much time stuck in front of your pc. you need to unplug for a bit, go for a walk, play some sports or go for a swim, do something that gets you from being couped up in the house. live a little, in the real world.

You need to listen - really listen - to what you have got to say to yourself. Pain is like you're having to use exclamation marks to yourself, because something is up, a whole lof of SHOUTING!
Listen to yourself, take time out to appreciate and nourish yourself to restore your inner harmony. What are you really missing out on, that you desperately need so much? Or what are you doing to yourself, and putting yourself through that is so wrong, and not fit for you?
Good luck! And I hope things get brighter for you.

I can only tell you what others have experienced when they have begun studying God's Word, the Bible. They have discovered that something important was missing from their lives, namely the Lord Jesus. That may be what you need.
