I need to choose a contraceptive that will NOT make me gain weight or give me acne.

I am overweight and have had acne in the past so i dont really want to gain any more weight or get acne

I have high blood pressure and my doctor has told me to choose an alternative to the normal Pill i am taking. My GP gave me some leaflets but i dont know what is the best

i am not keen on having any devices inserted either.

All pills have the potential to cause weight gain (which is actually water) of an average of about 5-10 lbs. One pill that did make me lose weight though (and that's just the way it affected me) I ended up losing almost 10 lbs on was the Yasmin. Because of your blood pressure issues I don't know if this one would be safe for you to take.

has your dr suggested the mini pill? The mini pill is safer for women who are overweight to use. I am overweight and my dr suggested the mini pill, it was fab! Can have a few side affects at first like irregular bleeding, but soon stops for most people and my periods then stopped whilst taking it. duno if it will help with your acne but its worth asking your drs advice. i no longer take it, but you take it continuously without a break unlike the combined pill. I was taking cerazette, maybe this would be a good option for you??

I wouldn't advise a coil unless you have had children, or are not planning on having any for a good few years. I had a mirena coil, and whilst it stops your periods, it was very painful to have it put in, and then drove me mad so ended up having it removed (which was painful again!).

Ask your dr to discuss your options with you in more detail if you don't understand or are confused, thats their job and you should find them willing to help. also try researching on the net!

most hormonal birth controls actually help to control acne. You will probably gain a bit of weight on hormonal birth control. can't really avoid it. but by a little I'm talking 1 to 5 pounds at most. There are pills with lower hormone doses but it you have heart problems I don't recommend a hormonal birht control AT ALL. Maybe you should look into IUD's and barrier methods. They have no hormones so no side effects and both can be very effective. good luck

join the club, that's prettu much all your choices used up! The new mirena coil is supposed to be good, having said that my friend had one and ended up removing it herself she was in so much pain ( we are nurses!) I stuck with the pill for years. The only reason you gain weight is if you eat more at the end of the day. You might feel more peckish, but just eat fruit and good stuff and you'll be OK. The minin pill is a bit risky, I don't trust it.

Tricky with all your exclusions...............I suppose you could always say NO. A very good "inserted device" is an IUD (Inter-Uterine-Device), which is commonly called a LOOP. It looks like a spiral and is inserted into your womb. All that is "feel able are two small cords, which need to be checked by you occasionally ie. when you have a bath.

Have you been tested for Poly cystic Ovaries? My daughter was like yourself and is now on a very low contraceptive pill and its worked, with the weight and acne.

Why don't you try the old fashion cap if you speak to the family planning clinic they do like this method ask for a tight fitting cap
I got on with it great my sister developed thrush give it a go its better than filling your body with hormones or a semi permeate device

Why not try the patch? Works as well as the Pill but you change it weekly instead of taking it daily like the Pill.

The Pill used to give me terrible mood swings, I found the Patch soooo much better. Hope this helps.

There are slight side effects to most contraceptives.

If you are not keen on the pill and other contraceptives, use a condom hun.
