Stories are yours. They shall be yours till such time as you no longer need them. Stories are there to assist you and serve as a base on which to stand as a foil against being devoid of these very stories on which your growth may so heavily depend for health and growth sake.

Stories are there to master so that you can assist others when such time as they find themselves stuck in theirs.

Stories do dissolve of their own volition once they serve the purpose for which they were created, experienced, and sustained -- this, in no way different from the purpose for which any universe is created: on serving the purpose of its creator, it terminates... This is neither good or bad; it just is.

Keep your stories, but do not obsess upon them. Look at them, tell of them, feel of them, but do not stare at them...

The moment you think something, the thought is shared with the world, no matter what the law says. Natch this includes stories. This is why for example inventions are thought of and developed in many different places at once. Another example can be found in movie scripts. It is normal that writers will finish a script only to find out that the subject matter is already in production. So if your are going to write, write fast.

I don't think we realize it until after it is all said and done, but our stories are oftentimes other peoples stories as well and so may not be all ours to tell, we have to respect the right to privacy and dignity of others and I think this is also written in the law in some ways. Hopefully we would not tell the stories just to be hurtful.

while theyre in your head theyre all yours. but once you speak them out or write them down do they really belong to anybody? its that whole word vs world thing. the authority of language.
once you recall a sequence of events you transform it into a new memory, tainted by text. new visuals are created. and memory could be false of course. all you know of it is how you experience it in the present moment. then if you tell me a story of your life, as you tell it i form visualisations to go with it in my mind. i can then experience it, obviously differently to how you do, but validly in the space of my own head. so why is it any more your story than mine now? your memory is words and visuals. my memory is words and visuals... its all the same. it's something i'm very interested in, ownership of memory.
if you're really interested, you should read mark freeman's "rewriting the self". sounds like a dodgy self help book but its actually pretty good :)

I write a story. Why? To share with the world. I sell my book on the market...it is no longer my story. It belongs to the masses. My stories are ideas, my ideas, then as I tell the story it then becomes my possession to give away to others. If it is something else - I don't have it figured out.

My experiences are the stories of my life. I can tell them if I choose, but I don't own them. Of course I could have experienced an event with another and their story could be totally different because we all have different experiences and different ways of seeing things.

It depends on the type of stories. Folklore is meant to be told and passed on from generation to generation. Stories about other people - is that not gossip unless you have their permission. Your stories are yours to tell but don't expect them to be passed on verbatim.

Stories are never yours because they are not even stories unless you tell them and if you tell them then they are no longer yours.
