I am a recovering Alcoholic and Addict clean for 8 years. Your body is going to have to adjust and there are probably symptons of withdrawal. You're going through withdrawl and thats why you can't sleep well or have insomnia. Give it a week or so and your body will adjust. You should have little trouble falling and staying asleep after awhile. You should try OTC sleep aids such as "Simply Sleep" by Tylenol etc, Valerian root, or Melatonin capsoles.They DO help. You aren't suppose to combine any these sleep aids with alcohol. If that doesn't work...talk to your doctor.
Been there myself. Good luck to you and moderate or stay off the booze.

Alcohol depletes the body of the B vitamins. I suggest you start taking a B complex vitamin three times daily. This will start to get your body balanced. A calcium tablet before bedtime will help you relax.
I've also enclosed a link to a web site that shows a video on how to do deep breathing exercises. Doing these exercises before bedtime are very effective to help you relax and get to sleep.
After doing all of the above if you still have a problem consult your doctor.

In the short term, try Melatonin, taken early in the evening, or Valerian root (from health food stores & some supermarkets), but try to use these for short periods only, and avoid anything more powerful (like TylenolPM, or Ambien), unless you find that you really need it, but it is not good to rely on them for long. Exercise vigorously for 30 - 60 mins./day, not within 2 hrs of bedtime. No coffee or tea within 6 hrs of bedtime.No loud music, or TV, or anything exciting, within 2 hrs of bedtime. Have a warm bath, with lavender oil, or a warm shower, then a glass of very warm milk, or chamomile tea, just before bedtime. Keep your bed for sleeping only, unless you have a partner. Always adopt the same routine at night. Read something boring before bedtime. Don't drink over it & get to a meeting! It's only sleep- the booze will kill you! You may want to consult your doctor if insomnia has been an issue. Good luck!!!!

I hear ya! although I still drink. your body chemistry is off, try getting up earlier or something.
Or you can try an herb that is sold in the vitamin isle, I can't think of the name of it, but it is what your brain makes naturally, I belive it starts with an "M". (it is right on the tip of tounge but can't think of what it is) but it is for sleeping

try to exercise...it will burn your energy making you sleep better and relieve the stress that can come from cutting back on the booze...plus it will make you feel better overall

Your body is just trying to adjust. You are probably going to bed earlier because you are not out partying, well your body is not use to that. Give it time, it will work itself out.
