At a recent smear test the nurse said she thought I was ovulating - how on earth could she know that?

Also, this was only 7 days after the start of my period - isnt this a bit soon to be ovulating?

Probably by the cervix (weather its high or low. and as for what the previous posters said wasnt quite right, around ovulation time your cervical mucus gets like egg whites, clear , strechy and more fluid, almost exactly like egg whites, (the reason is this type of cervical mucus helps the sperm swim better to their destination..the rest of the month, cervical mucus changes to thick and cloudy because the body knows its not fertile time.

During ovulation the membrane of the uterus reaches maximum thickness. The nurse would have been able to see the uterus lining during smear.

she would no by the discharge, as its different at ovulation, i ovulate at around day 8-10

because your discharge could have been really thick, or a slight different colour,
she probably being doing that job for yars and looked inside millions of women so it would come as common sense to her.

By looking at the thickness of your vaginal discharge.
